Dimples

Fact: Dimples are caused by a shortened muscle in the cheek. The short muscle pulls at the skin, especially when the person smiles, although sometimes dimples are visible without smiling. Dimples are inherited from one or both parents as a dominant trait and sometimes disappear or change as the person gets older and the muscle stretches out.

Dimples in the chin happen when the jawbone doesn't fuse perfectly together during the embryonic developent. They are also genetically determined.

Quote: "A man in love mistakes a pimple for a dimple."  -- Japanese proverb

Site: HowStuffWorks tells you why golf balls have dimples!
